A Revamp to Fit User’s Expectation for Support Many Products Teams

Recognized that user experience and interface are constantly evolving. One year after launching the Legion design system publicly, you felt it was essential to ensure its sustainability and alignment of requirements.

Understanding the Why

You began by asking thoughtful questions: Why is this redesign necessary? How effective has Legion been so far? What problems remain hidden? Your content team, in collaboration with the Research Hub, conducted a heuristic evaluation and user surveys. Findings revealed navigation issues, users often felt lost in the directory, struggled to find specifics, and found the interface overly text-heavy and confusing.

Building the Strategy

Armed with insights, you laid out an improvement plan focused on:

  • Streamlined, one-directional navigation to simplify content structure.
  • Visual-first presentation with clear measurements, usage instructions, and UI examples.
  • Inclusion of "Do’s and Don’ts", a feedback form, contact details, and comprehensive usage guidelines for components.

Designing and Implementing

You constructed the information architecture through card sorting with representative users. Then you moved into ideation, sketching, discussing, merging ideas—followed by lo-fi mockups, hi-fi mockups, and implementation. A front-end engineer executed the design under your supervision to ensure fidelity to the mockups.

Launch and Continuous Iteration

You launched the MVP version on September 12, 2022, marking a significant milestone. But you didn’t stop there, your content team continues iterating based on a roadmap, collaborating with component teams, pattern teams, research & testing teams, graphic designers, and UX writers to keep the site responsive to user needs.
